Join the Pittsburgh office of the U.S. Commercial Service and the Western Pennsylvania District Export Council for a three part webinar series designed to help small businesses better understand U.S. export controls, develop and implement compliance best practices, and avoid costly mistakes. Our speakers will include attorneys and compliance professionals who will provide participants with a practical understanding of U.S.export regulations and what they mean for exporters.  Additionally, our presenters will share their real world approaches to export compliance and best practices.

Session 1 – November 10, 2021 – An Introduction to U.S. Export Controls
U.S. export regulations impact all U.S. exporters and having an understanding of the different sets of regulations, which government agenciesmanage and enforce the regulations, and what they mean for your company is an important first step.  Our presenters will highlight the different agencies involved in U.S. export controls and regulations, review the two major sets of regulations,  and help you become more familiar with the key concepts and issues related to export controls.

Session 2 – December 2, 2021 – Fundamentals of Export Compliance and Management
Staying compliant and minimizing the chances of an inadvertent violations means a company has to be proactive and have a plan, specifically an Export Management and Compliance Plan.  In this session, our presenters will highlight the key elements that need to be included in a plan and share their real world perspective on how to develop, implement, and maintain an Export Management and Compliance Plan that will fit your unique needs as an exporter.

Session 3 – December 16, 2021 – Due Diligence and Effective Customer Screening
Know who you international customers are is a crucial part of your export compliance efforts. Even products not specifically controlled may require an export license depending who your customer is, where your customer is located, and how your customer will use your products. Our presenters will share their expertise on screening their customers and performing due diligence not only on the customer but the transaction as well. We will cover the “lists to check”, screening for red flags, and how to handle transaction where there might be a concern.
